Later, Love wrote A treatise on the mathematical theory of elasticity (1892-1893), which gives the general theory of stress and strain; conditions of equilibrium and stability of elastic plates, shells, and solids; of torsion of rods and the bending and vibrations of beams; and the transmission of force. In 1898 Love was elected to the Sedleian chair of natural philosophy at Oxford. DNB, 1931-1940, pp. 545-546; DSB, VIII, p. 516. View more info
