Adam Wilhelm Siegmund Gunther (1848-1923) was a German geographer, historian of mathematics and natural sciences. He graduated from University of Erlangen in 1865. Since the study geography did not exist, Gunther studied mathematics and physics. This is his monumental history of the nineteenth century inorganic sciences.
