10 WATSON, Herbert B. Modern Theories of Organic Chemistry.
Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1937. 1937
8vo. vii, 218 pp. Figs., index. Navy blue cloth. Fine. First edition. One of four important monographs on organic chemistry printed between 1935 and 1941. “Watson had worked with Orton at Bangor before moving to Cardiff Technical College. He had already supported Ingold and Hughes through his reviews on their research in the Chemical Society’s Annual Reports. Not surprisingly, his pro-Ingold volume was largely about the ‘applications of the electronic theory in organic chemistry,’ though it did contain chapters on free radicals, unsaturation, and even ‘[t]he factors determining reaction velocity.’” – Carsten Reinhardt, Chemical Sciences in the 20th Century: Bridging Boundaries, 2008, p. 16. First Edition.
