Scribonius Largus was the court physician to the Roman emperor Claudius. First written in A. D. 47. This is an important compilation of drugs and prescriptions. Among other things, it records the drinking of ones own blood as a therapeutic rite. Scribonius was the first to describe accurately the preparation of true opium G. Helmreich edited a Latin edition of the book, published in 1887, while a German version by W. Schonack appeared in 1913. Garrison & Morton 1785.
